Life Transitions: Change Sucks

“I welcome change, as long as nothing is altered or different.” – Unknown

Appalachian Stream
Whether it is a new relationship, starting school, having a baby, losing an important person in your life, starting a new job, or realizing something in your life needs to change, transitions can uproot your routine and make you question your life choices. “What do I think I’m doing?” “Can I actually make this work?” “Will this be worth it?” “I want things to be different, but I don’t even know where to start.”

You may experience change in these ways:

Constantly questioning all of your decisions.

Feeling guilty about your decisions or feeling like a burden.

Feeling confused.

Anxiously waiting for some sense of comfort or reassurance that is nowhere to be found.

“Imposter syndrome”-otherwise known as feeling incompetent about everything.
Weird but true: doing the “right thing” can still leave you feeling sad, angry, or uncertain. The sad part? I’ve seen these feelings stop people in their tracks, get stuck, and not change a damn thing, regardless of how unhappy they are. The hopeful part? I’ve seen people take incredible risks- whether it’s letting a new person into their life, leaving a toxic relationship or job, starting a business, pursuing a new degree- and do what matters to them, even with the presence of anxiety, sadness, guilt, anger, or confusion.

Therapy for life transitions can help you:

Have an anchor during a time of chaos.

Learn skills to self-soothe, reassure, and provide comfort and stability for yourself.

Discover how to work with imposter syndrome or other painful emotions or thoughts.

Build confidence in yourself and your decisions.

Connect to your values as you create a new life for yourself.
As you’re reading this, you may be thinking, “Oh, but I’m not ready” or “Psh, I could never do that” or even “This sounds too good to be true.” All skeptical thoughts are welcome here! Let me ask you this- are you happy with where you are at, and is what you are doing working for you? No? Then…..maybe it’s time to think about a change.

Change is scary - and it can also be rewarding. I will help you make room for all of the uncomfortable feelings that arise during transitions and provide you with resources to skillfully navigate difficult life changes. If you think now is the time to talk about change, contact me today to see if we are a good fit.
